Aircraft Grounding
Last updated 12/27/2025
Overview
An aircraft may be grounded when it has maintenance issues that make it unsafe to fly. Grounding is a safety measure to prevent flying an unairworthy aircraft.
What Causes Grounding?
An aircraft can be grounded due to:
- Grounding squawks - Maintenance issues reported as grounding
- Scheduled maintenance - Annual inspections, 100-hour checks, etc.
- Overdue maintenance - Required maintenance that wasn't completed on time
How Grounding Appears
When an aircraft is grounded:
- Fleet status shows red or orange indicator
- Calendar shows maintenance blocks in red
- Reservations display warnings about aircraft status
- Current flight card shows grounding alerts
If Your Reserved Aircraft is Grounded
If an aircraft becomes grounded while you have a reservation:
- You'll be notified of the issue
- Review the squawks to understand the problem
- Contact your maintenance coordinator for an update
- Consider rebooking to a different aircraft if needed
Removing Grounding Status
Only members with the Maintenance role can resolve grounding squawks. Once the issue is fixed and the squawk is marked resolved, the aircraft returns to normal status.
Tips
- Never fly a grounded aircraft - it's grounded for a reason.
- If you discover an issue that should ground an aircraft, report it immediately as a grounding squawk.
- Check aircraft status the day of your flight - status can change.
