Flight Instructor Settings
Last updated 4/7/2026
Overview
One of the underappreciated advantages of a flying club over a commercial flight school is the depth of experience already sitting among the membership. Many clubs have CFIs who are happy to provide checkouts, instrument proficiency checks, BFRs, and tailwheel endorsements — but only if other members know they are available. Centerline's instructor settings give certificated flight instructors a way to make themselves discoverable within the club without broadcasting their information to the outside world.
When you mark yourself as a club instructor and fill in a description of your services, your name, photo, and contact details appear on the Club Instructors card visible to all members on their dashboard. For a new member trying to get their checkout, or an experienced pilot looking for a mountain checkout or a tailwheel endorsement, this is the first place they look.
Accessing Instructor Settings
Go to your Profile, select the Certificates & Ratings tab, and scroll down to the Flight Instruction card at the bottom of the page.
Instructor Settings
Instructor Rating
Select the highest instructor certificate you hold:
- CFI — Certified Flight Instructor (single-engine)
- CFII — Instrument Instructor
- MEI — Multi-Engine Instructor
If you hold more than one endorsement, select the most applicable one. You can describe your full range of qualifications in the services description.
Club Instructor
Check this box to opt in to appearing on the Club Instructors card visible to other members. Unchecking it removes you from that listing without deleting your other instructor information. If you are temporarily unavailable to take students — for example, if you are traveling for an extended period — you can uncheck this box and re-enable it when you return.
CFI Services Description
A free-text field where you describe what you offer. Be specific: a description like "Primary training in 172, instrument instruction, BFRs, Citabria tailwheel checkouts — contact me via email to schedule" is far more useful than "Flight instruction available." Include:
- Aircraft types you instruct in
- Types of instruction (primary, instrument, BFR, checkouts, endorsements)
- How and when to reach you
- Any specialty areas (mountain flying, complex aircraft, etc.)
How It Appears to Other Members
If the Club Instructor checkbox is enabled, you will appear in the Club Instructors section on other members' dashboards. Members will see:
- Your profile photo
- Your name
- Your instructor rating
- Your services description
- Your contact information (email and phone number from your profile)
This card is visible to all members of your organization, so keeping your contact information current on the Personal tab is just as important as filling in your services description.
Tips
- Be specific in your services description — the more detail, the easier it is for a member to know whether you are the right instructor for their needs.
- Include your typical availability or how best to reach you. Some instructors prefer email; others are happy with a text.
- Keep your phone number and email current on the Personal tab. Those are the contact details members will use to reach you.
- If you are an active CFI but temporarily unavailable, uncheck Club Instructor rather than leaving a listing that generates inquiries you cannot respond to.
- Your CFI certificate expiration date is separate from your pilot certificate currency. If you let your CFI lapse, update your instructor settings accordingly to avoid confusion.
