Overview
Notifications are how Centerline keeps you in the loop without requiring you to constantly check the app. When something happens that affects your flying — a reservation is confirmed, your backup gets promoted, a reminder fires the day before your flight, or your club admin sends you a message — a notification lands in your inbox, your text messages, and your in-app notification history. Together, these channels make sure that time-sensitive information reaches you reliably, even when you're away from the screen.
The Notifications page is your complete history of everything Centerline has sent you. It's also where you can manage that history: mark items as read, acknowledge required messages, and clear out old notifications to keep things tidy.
Viewing Your Notifications
The Notification Bell
The quickest way to check for new notifications is the bell icon in the top-right corner of the navigation bar. When you have unread notifications, the bell shows a numbered badge indicating how many are waiting. Click the bell to see a dropdown preview.
The Full Notifications Page
For a complete view of your notification history, navigate to Dashboard > Notifications from the sidebar. The page shows:
- A count of total notifications and how many are unread (e.g., "12 notifications (3 unread)")
- Your full notification list, newest first, with unread items highlighted with a teal background and a teal dot indicator
Each notification in the list displays:
- Type label — a small category tag (e.g., "Reminder", "Backup Promoted", "Certificate Reminder", "System") shown in muted text above the title
- Title — the main subject of the notification, shown in bold if unread. If the notification has a linked resource (like a specific reservation), the title is a clickable link that takes you directly there.
- Message — the full notification body, which may include formatted text
- Timestamp — the exact date and time the notification was created, plus a relative time like "3 hours ago"
Notification Types
Centerline sends the following types of notifications:
| Type | What it means |
|---|---|
| Reservation Created | A new reservation was created for you |
| Reservation Updated | An existing reservation was changed — time, aircraft, or destination |
| Reservation Cancelled | A reservation was cancelled by you or an admin |
| Reminder | A day-before reminder for a flight scheduled tomorrow (sent by the daily cron job) |
| Backup Promoted | Your backup reservation was automatically promoted to active status because the conflicting reservation cleared |
| Certificate Reminder | Your Medical, BFR, or Club Review is approaching expiration |
| Event | A club event notification |
| System | A message sent directly to you (or all members) by an admin in your organization |
| CENTERLINE | A platform-level announcement from the Centerline team |
Managing Your Notifications
Marking as Read
Unread notifications are highlighted with a teal background. To mark a single notification as read, click the checkmark icon on the right side of the notification row. To mark everything at once, click the Mark all as read button at the top of the list.
Clicking a linked notification title also marks it as read automatically.
Required Acknowledgment
Some notifications sent by your club admins are marked as requiring acknowledgment. These are important messages that admins want to confirm you've seen — for example, a critical policy change or a safety notice. Required notifications that are unread cannot be deleted; you must read (acknowledge) them first. Once marked as read, they can be deleted like any other notification.
Deleting Notifications
To delete a single notification, click the trash icon on the right side of the notification row. To clear out all notifications you've already read, click the Clear read button at the top of the list. This is a good habit to maintain so that truly important unread items stand out.
Note: You cannot delete a required notification that you haven't yet acknowledged.
Delivery Channels
In-app notifications always appear on the Notifications page. Depending on your notification preferences and how your account is configured, notifications may also be delivered via:
- Email — Sent to the email address on your account if email notifications are enabled
- SMS — Sent to your phone number if SMS notifications are enabled and your organization has SMS configured
To control which channels you receive notifications on, see Your Profile > Notification Preferences. You can turn email notifications and SMS notifications on or off independently. Note that some critical notifications (like required acknowledgment messages) may be sent regardless of your preferences.
Tips
- Keep your notification preferences configured to match how you actually want to be reached. If you check email frequently, enable email notifications. If you're often away from your desk, SMS reminders for tomorrow's flights can be a valuable safety net.
- The Backup Promoted notification is particularly important — it means a flight you thought might not happen is now confirmed. If you receive this notification unexpectedly, check your upcoming reservations to confirm the details are still correct.
- If you receive a Certificate Reminder notification, update your expiration dates in your profile so Centerline knows when to remind you again. The daily reminder job sends reminders when your Medical, BFR, or Club Review are within 30 days of expiring.
- Club admins with the Booking role can send notifications to all members or to specific individuals directly from the Notifications page. If you receive a System notification from your club, it was sent intentionally and is worth reading carefully.
