Contacts Sync

Overview
Contacts Sync puts your club's member directory into the Contacts app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Once set up, every member's name, email, and phone number appears alongside your personal contacts, with the club listed as their company and their club roles (and "Instructor", where applicable) as their title. When someone joins, leaves, or updates their details in Centerline, your device picks up the change on its next sync.
The sync is read-only. Edits you make on your phone are not sent back to Centerline, and the Contacts app will refuse changes to these cards. Everything is managed from Centerline itself.
If you belong to more than one club on Centerline, a single address book contains the members of all of them. A person who belongs to two of your clubs appears once, with both clubs in their company field.
What Is Shared
Your card includes exactly what your fellow members can already see on the Members page:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number, if you have entered one on your profile
- Club name and your roles in it
Nothing else from your profile is included — no certificate details, date of birth, emergency contact, or address — and there is no photo.
Getting Your Sync Password
Contacts Sync uses a separate, short password rather than your Centerline login password, so that the password stored on your device cannot be used to sign in to the app.
- Go to your Profile and select the Security tab
- In the Contacts Sync card, click Generate password
- The card now shows three values: the Server, your Username (your Centerline email address), and your Password. Each has a copy button
The password stays visible on this page, so you can come back to it whenever you set up another device.
Setting Up an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings, then Apps, then Contacts (on older versions: Settings, then Contacts)
- Tap Accounts, then Add Account, then Other
- Tap Add CardDAV Account
- Enter the Server, User Name, and Password from your Profile. The description can be anything, for example your club's name
- Tap Next. Once the account is verified, tap Save
Open the Contacts app and your club members appear under the new account within a few seconds.
Setting Up a Mac
- Open Contacts, then choose Contacts > Settings from the menu bar (older versions: Preferences)
- Select the Accounts tab and click the + button
- Choose Other Contacts Account, then CardDAV
- Leave Account Type set to Manual
- Enter your User Name, Password, and the Server Address from your Profile, then click Sign In
The account appears in the Contacts sidebar with your club members in it.
Android
Android does not include CardDAV support out of the box. Install the DAVx⁵ app from the Play Store or F-Droid, add an account with your Centerline email, your sync password, and the server address from your Profile, and enable the address book it finds. Your club members then appear in the standard Contacts app.
Regenerating the Password
If you think your sync password has been seen by someone else, or you want to disconnect a device you no longer have:
- Go to Profile > Security > Contacts Sync
- Click Regenerate password and confirm
Every device set up with the old password stops syncing immediately. Update the password in each device's account settings to reconnect it.
Tips
- "Unable to verify account name or password." Double-check that the username is your full Centerline email address and that you copied the sync password, not your login password. If you recently regenerated the password, use the new one.
- Members who have left the club disappear from your device on the next sync. Members who are locked out still appear.
- Your own card is included, so the Contacts app may link it with your personal "me" card. That is harmless.
- Last synced on the Contacts Sync card shows when a device last connected, which is a quick way to confirm a new setup is working.
- If the Contacts Sync card does not appear on your Security tab, make sure you are signed in as a club member rather than viewing a member's profile as an administrator.
